The Maine Coast in Winter

I got a chance to visit the ocean in southern Maine today, so I took a few photos. It was a bit cold to swim for me, but there was one surfer on York Beach who donned a full wet suit and went into the ocean for some of 2-3 foot waves that were reaching the shore. I didn't get any photos of the surfer. I did however get these two shots at Nubble Light, which is just north of the beach.

Lunar Eclipse

moon-saturn.jpgI braved the cold temperatures tonight to photograph the lunar eclipse. It was fun to see, though I was hoping the moon would turn a deeper red than it did.

Here you see the moon near full eclipse with Saturn to its left.

Wet Cardinal

View imageFinally, after having my bird feeder up for a week and a half the cardinals finally showed up. It rained for most of the day here, but the cardinals decided to join the rest of the birds for a snack around noon. Now that they've warmed up the to the bird feeder, I should be able to get some great shots when the sun comes out.

Birds

fly away.jpgFor the past couple of months I've been trying to get some good photos of the pair of cardinals that hang out in a tree by my driveway, but they never get close enough so that I can get a good photo. I can't afford a 1000mm lens right now, so I grabbed an old bird feeder from my parents and got some wild bird seed to try to bring the cardinals closer to my window so I can take some nice photos of them.

it's been about a week since the bird feeder has been up and the cardinals don't seem to want to come near it yet, but there have been tons of other birds eating the free food. They were out in force yesterday and I got a bunch of good shots. The photo in this post is my favorite from yesterday. Click on it to see a larger version.
