Some of my favorite outdoors shots come right after the clouds have cleared when the sun is at a low angle.... i.e. early morning or late afternoon. It was cloudy all day here, and after some rain the sun broke through the clouds and cast a very nice golden light on everything. Of course that only lasted about 15 minutes because the sun dipped behind the trees, but it was good. The photo here shows some pines in the back yard that were lit up with that golden light.
Because the male cardinal is red, he's really easy to see on an overcast day in late autumn when most of the trees have lost their leaves. But the cardinal knows he's red and knows that everything that wants to eat him can see him very easily, too. That means that he doesn't stick around too long when he notices something odd... like the sound of a camera shutter. I went unnoticed long enough to get a couple of decent shots. Nothing good enough to print out a wall sized poster, but certainly good enough for you to look at in this update.
This is a down time for a photographer like me. The leaves are all gone, there's no snow on the ground, and there aren't even any Christmas decorations up yet.
I've been planning out some projects, so there will be plenty of new photos here very soon.
