Patriots Training Camp - July 31st

http://www.gregburt.com/blogimages/2007/07/31-01-blog-thumb.jpgPhotos for July 31st - morning practice.

It's back to two practices today after only one yesterday. It was not a full pads practice as everyone was wearing shorts along with the shoulder pads and helmets. Tom Brady pulled a page out of Bill Belichick's fashion book as he was wearing a pair of sweatpants that were cut off at the knees.

There was a bit of yelling from the coaches today, with the loudest bit of displeasure being directed at tight end, Matt Kranchick, during a play where a coach yelled at him to "get the fuck out of there!" before the ball was snapped. He was replaced by Ben Watson. The kids in the crowd got a kick out of hearing a coach swear that loudly.

Mourning Dove

http://www.gregburt.com/blogimages/2007/07/Mourning%20Dove-thumb.jpgI know this isn't nearly as exciting as Patriots photos, but I'm a nature geek, too. Take a look at the mourning dove's eyes... looks like it's wearing eye shadow, doesn't it?

Patriots Training Camp - July 30th

http://www.gregburt.com/blogimages/2007/07/30-18-blog-thumb.jpgThe Patriots held one practice today and I was there again taking photos. Check them out.

This was a more intense practice than the one I attended Friday morning. Far more hits and some good battles in the blocking drills. At one point Tom Brady chewed out the offense while practicing third down situations against the defense.

Randy Moss continues to catch just about every ball that's thrown to him, including a leaping attempt at a deep throw during one of the third down plays.

It's so great that football is back.

Hungry Hawk

http://www.gregburt.com/blogimages/2007/07/hawk-blog-thumb.jpgMy softball team had a practice this evening and as we were waiting for a game to finish up before we could get started, I spotted this hawk sitting on top of one of the light poles in the outfield. Of course I went out to snap some shots, and while the best position for me to stand would have been on the field, I don't think anyone would have stopped the game so I could take photos of some bird.

I took a bunch of pictures, and as I was walking away I looked back and realized that the hawk was about to take off. It was looking intently at something and started to lift its shoulders. So I watched to see where it would fly to next, hoping I could get some better shots. I lucked out as it flew to the edge of some bushes and nabbed a rabbit. When I first arrived on the scene, the hawk was still wrestling with the rabbit while keeping an eye on me at the same time.

Of course I fired away with the camera again, and kept walking closer knowing that at some point I'd get too close and the hawk would fly off with its meal. Eventualy it did fly away, but not before I took this shot with the hawk glaring at me as though I'm there to steal its dinner.

Nubble Light

http://www.gregburt.com/blogimages/2007/07/Nubble-sm-thumb.jpgAfter camping in a tent for the past three nights in New Hampshire through the rain and general wetness, I made a quick stop at Nubble Light before I drove home. The lighthouse looks great sitting on top of its rock island, and I came away with some better pictures than I did last year when I visited this same place.

Here's the location on a Mapquest map.

Fireworks Photos

I've posted a set of 11 photos of McCoy Stadium's fireworks display from Tuesday night. You can look at them all by clicking here.

McCoy Stadium Fireworks - July 3rd

http://www.gregburt.com/blogimages/2007/07/fireworks1-thumb.jpgApparently Pawtucket celebrates Independence Day a day early. A friend of mine lives very close to McCoy Stadium and there was a great view of their fireworks display from his front yard.

If you take a close look at the picture, you'll notice some black lines... those are utility lines. Of course I couldn't take them down to get them out of my way, and it's almost 2 AM now so I'm not going to use photoshop to get rid of them at the moment. My plan is to put up about 10 or so photos of tonight's fireworks display, with the utility lines edited out, so you can see the fireworks as you might have seen them before Pawtucket put up all those telephone poles. Then again, before there were telephone poles in Pawtucket, the place where McCoy stadium is was a swamp, so there wouldn't have been fireworks there anyway.

Expect to see that set of photos sometime on Thursday.
