Yellowstone in HD

http://www.gregburt.com/blogimages/2007/01/Firehole%20River-thumb.jpgI had the chance to watch the Discovery HD Theater channel on a nice plasma TV on Sunday night. There was a program on called Sunrise Earth and it was just a bunch of stationary shots of Yellowstone National Park at sunrise, but it was amazing in high def and with the sounds. The series of course branches out beyond Yellowstone, but it made me realize that I had no Yellowstone photos on this website.

That made me think I might have lost my mind. Yellowstone is one of the most amazing places I've ever seen and photographed, but when I reworked the portfolio section a couple of months ago I forgot about my Yellowstone photos. Stupid, I know.

The first three photos you'll see in the landscape section of the portfolio are now Yellowstone photos. It's about time!

It's Winter Somewhere

http://www.gregburt.com/blogimages/2007/01/frozenlake-thumb.jpgI got to spend some time in New Hampshire today visiting my sister at her college. There was some snow on the ground there... not much, but it felt good to see some snow since it has officially been winter for over a month now. It was good to see my sister, too.

I'm still waiting for the first big snow storm of the year, but the weather forecast doesn't look good for any significant snow for at least a week. It's about time for snowmen, snowball fights, and snowshoeing.

So far, my podcasts have been moderately popular. At least people are listening to them, and that's a good thing. I might do another one tomorrow.

Two years ago at this time, I came up with the idea to do a summer trip to photograph all the Major League Baseball stadiums. I started doing research on all the stadiums and teams, but then I saw a Travel Channel show that featured Arches National Park and my baseball stadium tour turned into a national parks tour. That was a fun month on the road and I ended up with some great pictures. The only stadium I went to was PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

Anyway, I'm reviving the stadium tour idea. I don't know if I have enough time or resources to get it going for this summer, but if I can get the support of Major League Baseball then it could happen. The end result would be a book with photos and stories about each stadium, the fans, and the teams.

I'll tell you more as I work out the details.

Downy Woodpecker

http://www.gregburt.com/blogimages/2007/01/pecker-thumb.jpgI was sitting inside doing some work on the computer today and I saw this bird hopping around the trees outside my window. So I grabbed my camera, went outside, and got a couple of good shots before it spotted me and flew away. I had to do a google search to find out what species of woodpecker it was despite my Natural Resource Studies degree. To my credit, I never took any classes where I had to identify species of birds, but I should have known anyway since I see downy woodpeckers around my house all the time.

It was cold out there. 19°F to be exact. It's kind of late in the season to have our first legitimate cold day in MA. Then again, in this area of the country it could be that same temperature in mid-April. That's just the way the weather is around here.

A Hole In The Bank

http://www.gregburt.com/blogimages/2007/01/bank-b-thumb.jpg
Yesterday afternoon, a guy driving a pickup truck in downtown Plainville, MA had a seizure and accelerated into the side of the Foxboro Savings and Loan building. A gas line was ruptured, and the gas was leaking into the bank, but there was no explosion.

So, here's some pictures of the hole left in the wall of the bank. It makes me think of movie style bank robberies.

Football

http://www.gregburt.com/blogimages/2007/01/Maroney%20Samuel-sm-thumb.jpgIn honor of the NFL playoffs beginning this weekend, I added a few photos I shot at this year's Patriots training camp to the People & Events section of the portfolio.

I'm currently working on finding and implementing a better system to make it easier to buy prints of the photos you see on this site. That should be set up within the next few weeks, so once you've paid off your bills from Christmas, you can come here and buy some nice prints and framed shots.

Happy New Year to all the visitors to gregburt.com. And don't be afraid to make a resolution to tell people about this website.
