Because the weather didn't cooperate when I was in Toronto last weekend, I wasn't able to get any worthwhile shots of the city's skyline. The fog was hanging low and visibility was awful. Every tall building was engulfed in fog, and the rain prevented me from taking a walking tour of the downtown area.
The only pictures I got in the city were from a beach on Lake Ontario. The wind was whipping as the temperature was in the 40s. My hands were numb after about 10 minutes of taking photos. The best part was the picture you see in this post. There were a couple of seagulls flying in place (kind of like running in place) as they looked in the water for food. It was almost like they were posing for me. Unfortunately my focus was a little off because of my numb hands so this picture won't look great as a large print, but it looks pretty good at the larger size you'll see by clicking on the thumbnail.
Another day at Niagara Falls. The picture you see here is the American Falls in the foreground on the left, and Canada's Horseshoe falls in the background.
I went on the Maid of the Mist boat this morning, which went right up to the edge of the Horseshoe falls, and it was awesome! Felt like being in a rain and wind storm for a few minutes.
We ate lunch on the Canadian side and at some bar and grill place and had a great view. The weather was great today, too... but I think it's going to be rainy tomorrow.
Tomorrow is Toronto time. I think the plan is to visit the science museum and visit the CN Tower.
The internet connection in the hotel was down last night so I didn't get a chance to post here or put up any of the Niagara Falls photos I took yesterday. We stuck to the American side of the falls, which is nice but not as spectacular as the Canadian side, which we'll be seeing today.
The most interesting sight yesterday was a group of monks (click the photo for a larger version) seeing the falls and having their pictures taken. It just seemed out of place to me.
Later today/tonight I'll be putting up a photo gallery of the best photos from the trip, assuming the hotel internet connection is still working.
So, I went outside today with the intention of taking some very spring-like photos. There aren't quite enough things in bloom just yet for a nice set of flowery photos, and the best looking photo of the day was the sun dial in my back yard.
The Niagara Falls trip will be later this week, and I should have some great photos to post each of the 3 nights I'm there. I'll be taking a day trip to Toronto as well to get some nice city pictures to add to my collection. Make sure you check back here starting Thursday night for the Niagara and Toronto photos.
Just got a new palm today that can connect to the net, so I'm trying to make a post with it.
The typing is pretty slow, but not as slow as text messaging on a cell phone.
I would prefer to be outside taking pictures, but rainy days tend to allow for some nice lighting situations inside. In my boredom I started taking photos of things around the house. I kind of like this ultra closeup of the guitar.
I've also been working on a business card design, and I should have those ready to hand out within a week or two.
The picture I included in this post is one I took about 6 years ago, and is one of the last pictures I ever took using film. During spring break of my senior year in college there was a ski club trip to Jackson Hole in Wyoming, and this shot was near the top of the mountain as one of my friends peered over the edge of a nearly vertical drop where a lot of the thrill seekers liked to attempt to ski down.
Acutally, it was that spring break trip that partially inspired me to do the cross country trip last summer. I always wanted to get back to that area of the country because it's an amazing place to be if you're a nature geek like me.
In the next few weeks I plan to start an advertising campaign. I'm hoping to get some gigs for weddings, family portraits, etc. Basically I'm looking to earn some cash by taking pictures of people in non-studio settings. When I get a nice looking ad together, I'll post it here.
